Riekko got in an accident as a child involving a heavy object and a lot of wood, resulting in his left leg getting amputated. Despite this, he was determined to become one of the best griffon-riders in the Perhe. At twelve he went with his parents to pick a griffon cub, who he named Tuuli. Rikki learned all he could about riding, and quickly became extremely skilled in the saddle. Young, bold, and perhaps a little stupid, Riekko and Tuuli did the Plunge together pretty much as soon as they could, and succeeded on their second try.
As he grew older Riekko began to mellow out, more sure of himself and less hungry to prove he was just as good as his peers. He wanted to see more of the world beyond High Heart's borders and set off in search of adventure. He has made a name for himself flying letters and news around central Theavia, and makes sure to return to High Heart every two months or so.
Recently, Riekko and Tuuli were struck by lightning while racing a stormfront home and crash-landed. Flying now makes his chest tighten with panic and Tuuli outright refuses to leave the ground at the slightest hint of rain. They have been doing therapy, and Riekko is considering the Vuori Lahja to 'reclaim' their wings once they are ready.

Extra notes:Lightning strike medical impacts (Riekko):
- Cataracts in both eyes.
- Right eye is more severe and Rikki can't see much more than shadows on that side.
- Left eye is mostly functional aside from mild light sensitivity and some reduced colour vision. It hopefully won't get worse.
- Random pain flare-ups.
- Constant ringing/buzzing sound in right ear.
Lightning strike medical impacts (Tuuli):
- Burned off most of the flight feathers on its right wing. They should grow back on the next molt.
- Tremors in wings and right side foreleg.
- Heightened startle response.
Other notes:
- Both Rikki and Tuuli have a good sense of when lightning will strike now.
- The wide leather belt thing is a support for Riekko's spine.
- Rikki is an ambulatory wheelchair user, but he prefers Tuuli and tends to leave his wheelchair at home.
- For maximum irony, Rikki is a member of Ukkonen (translates to Thunder) Perhe and got hit by lightning. Also his name translates to 'Willow grouse'. Guess what he is getting from the Vuori Lahja.
